The Chardonnay grape is revered the world over as the winemaker’s grape, as it presents the opportunity to leave a stamp of originality. Leaving said mark is equally important in both oaked and unoaked versions of this classic varietal. Our unoaked Chardonnay is meant to be a reflection of local terroir, as we believe that good viticultural practices are a key to crafting great wines.
Without the addition of oak we have allowed for several, specifically selected vineyards show the richness of the Niagara Peninsula. Upon first glance this wine has a soft, golden straw hue. Aromas of pear, green apple and lemon zest dominate the nose. The palate shows bright acidity and a light, clean body. The palate features notes of apple and citrus up front, followed by a slightly peachy finish.
This Chardonnay pairs nicely with cream sauce entrees, poultry, sausage, salmon and whitefish.

An interesting fact of Riesling is that it is one of the best wines to age. The question of how long to age the wine depends on the desired style. When Riesling is young, it is fresh and fruity often with notes of citrus fruit and racy acidity. Over time those characteristics can turn into a more complex combination of lemon zest, slate, rubber and even petrol. One style is not superior; it is simply personal preference.
This perfectly aged Riesling has had the advantage of being harvested in a cool year, which left the wine with excellent acidity. It is this acidity that has allowed the wine to age so gracefully. On the nose are mineral characters as well as wet stone, lime zest, white grapefruit, honey and a hint of petrol. The palate is fresh with a nice weight and texture to allow for excellent food pairing opportunities. The finish is quite dry with cleansing acidity in the background.
Pair this Riesling with poultry, delicate fish, Asian inspired cuisine, light cream sauces or even mild curry.

Riesling is an Angels Gate favourite and one of our best known varietals. This noble grape is the perfect test of terroir and can act as a calling card for a region’s ability to make world class wine. The Beamsville Bench is an excellent place to cultivate this grape due to the extensive minerality found in the soil and the temperate microclimate, which helps build acidity.
Riesling can be vinified into a variety of styles and our Beamsville Bench Riesling typically sits on the drier, steelier end of the spectrum.
On the nose, this wine is ripe with citrus fruits such as lemon and lime zest. In the background, hints of pink grapefruit round off the bouquet. The palate is quite dry, but very well balanced against its acidity, which provides refreshing finish that lingers on the palate.
Riesling is the perfect food companion because of its refreshing character. It stimulates the appetite, while cleansing the palate, making many dishes more enjoyable and flavourful. We recommend pairing this wine with white fish, poultry, cream sauces and richer dishes.
