The Chardonnay grape is revered the world over as the winemaker’s grape, as it presents the opportunity to leave a stamp of originality. Leaving said mark is equally important in both oaked and unoaked versions of this classic varietal. Our unoaked Chardonnay is meant to be a reflection of local terroir, as we believe that good viticultural practices are a key to crafting great wines.
Without the addition of oak we have allowed for several, specifically selected vineyards show the richness of the Niagara Peninsula. Upon first glance this wine has a soft, golden straw hue. Aromas of pear, green apple and lemon zest dominate the nose. The palate shows bright acidity and a light, clean body. The palate features notes of apple and citrus up front, followed by a slightly peachy finish.
This Chardonnay pairs nicely with cream sauce entrees, poultry, sausage, salmon and whitefish.

Our Mountainview Viognier displays apple, pear and tropical fruit on the nose while the palate is quite complex from its French barrel aging. The impact of the barrel adds roundness and a creamy texture, but doesn’t eclipse the stone fruit that brightens up the mouth feel.
|Aging Method:||Stainless Steel/ French Oak|
What is Fume Blanc? Well, Fume Blanc is Sauvignon Blanc with the addition of some oak aging. The key to the perfect Fume is to ensure that the balance between the fruit and the barrel texture is spot on. Acidity is a hallmark of this varietal and by adding in that oak aging the winemaker creates more structure and texture on the palate. This wine fits neatly between Chardonnay and Pinot Gris.
On the nose, look for some tree and tropical fruit as well as hints of toast. The palate is outstanding with excellent texture and length making this a complex medium bodied wine.
This wine pairs well with poultry, fish, pork loin, summer salads and stir-fry.
|Aging Process:||Stainless Steel Fermented, Barrel Aged in French Oak
Muscat is a relatively new varietal to the Angels Gate family. This grape varietal is often classed as one of the aromatic whites sitting next to the likes of Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurztraminer. But much like Gewurztraminer it has a distinct bouquet that is easily identifiable. Often one would find some of the typical citrus or tree fruit characteristic common with this style of white wine but it is elegantly weaved in with a wonderful floral note. This floral character is usually a dead give away for Muscat.
Our example is a very classic style offering great complexity in a mid weight aromatic superstar. Your taste buds will also be treated to a little more residual sugar as this wine comes in at about 30 g/L.
This wine is not only a great summer sipper but pairs well with a whole host of dishes. Try out a little roasted chicken, pan fried fish, pulled pork or stir-fry.
Sauvignon Blanc is such an interesting grape varietal and can be vinified into several different styles. At Angels Gate, the house style is to maximize on the fruit character of the wine while maintaining that racy acidity. The acidity is a hallmark of this varietal and creates structure and finesse. This wine fits neatly between Unoaked Chardonnay and Pinot Gris.
On the nose, look for that lemon zest and a hint of grapefruit. One might also find some classic grassy notes or a herbal quality. Enjoy this Sauvignon Blanc with your favourite fish recipe and you won't be disappointed.
To top it all off this wine won a Gold Medal at the 2019 Ontario Wine Awards!
